The OFW Journalism Consortium is a global non-profit media service reporting on the migration experience of Filipinos as well as policies and other issues that concerns the overseas Filipino workers. The Consortium now enters on its ninth year as a global nonprofit media service, servicing most media outfits both here and abroad. Our stories are republished by media outfits, making the Consortium one of the most trusted sources of news on OFW issues.
Since its creation in 2002 as a media advocacy project of a research-based NGO, the Consortium has an increasing number of media carriers of its stories, and the overseas Filipinos who read the free articles through their e-groups and the website. The existence of this international migration-focused media service is one of a kind in the world. The Consortium is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The Consortium distributes free newspackets to overseas Filipinos, Filipino-run media outfits and stakeholders in the country’s migrant sector—all of whom are based in the Philippines and abroad. The OFWJC also conducts extra-editorial activities to raise the level of discourse on international migration issues in the country.

International Blog Awards to honor the homecoming of OFWs & Filipino Expats
“Kaytagal mo nang nawala babalik ka rin, babalik ka rin….” croons Gary Valenciano an apt background for the 2011 Pinoy Expats/ OFW Blog Awards(PEBA). For this year, PEBA’s theme is “Ako’y Magbabalik, Hatid Ko’y Pagbabago” (I Will Return, I Will Bring Change) in recognition of the belief that Balikbayans not only send back monetary remittance; but social remittances as well.
Social remittances are ideas, practices and other forms of social capital that are exchanged from a host or overseas countries to the Philippines. These remittances are believed to be in the form of letters or at present communicated much faster through emails and other social media like tweets and blogs.
For this year PEBA opens a new blog search called PEBA’s Any Blogger, Anywhere for all Filipinos. This year’s blog contest will look into narratives as to how returning Expats/OFW will make use and share their social remittance or their talents, skills and fortunes to bring change to their families, communities and country. Expats/OFW bloggers who will be joining the contest will be required to write a blog entry on the said theme. There is also blog contest for OFW supporters. PEBA also launched a Nokia essay writing contest as well as photo contest.
For 2011, VIPinoy, a service and perks for overseas Filipinos and OFWs offered by Ayala Malls is the biggest sponsor of PEBA. Ayala Mall is providing Trinoma Activity Center as the venue for the awards nights on December 9, 2011. PEBA is equally supported by one of its long time partner NOKIA and communication giant Globe Kababayan.
PEBA will exclusively invite some 200 guests who can make their reservation and confirmation/RSVP of their attendance through VIPinoy Lounges in the different Ayala Malls.
The PEBA News & Current Affairs New Media Network Group will provide up-to-date OFW-related news and current events, disseminate information, and act as a portal for Overseas Filipinos to learn how to contact PEBA’s Alliance Action Center.
“We hope that as the project progresses, the voice of overseas Filipinos will be heard,” says Segre.
